The new Greeley cheese plant being built by Leprino Foods of Denver is an important cog in the company's future plans.
“The Greeley plant is very, very big and very bold in our future growth plans,” Derek Friedman said Friday morning.
Friedman, the marketing director for Leprino, joined others from Leprino, and the Western Dairy Association in the launching of the Fuel Up To Play 60 cafeteria promotion test and dairy optimization at Heath Middle School in Greeley. Heath, Brentwood and Chappelow were among seven schools chosen in Colorado as pilots for the program which may, in association with the National Football League and National Dairy Council, go national.
Friedman said Greeley-Evans School District 6 was a logical choice since Leprino is building its newest cheese production facility and the fact that the company's owner, Jim Leprino, has a passion for the health of children. Leprino, he said, developed a line of new string cheese for school meals which were unveiled at Heath and the other schools.
