“Hood and the Red Sox are so proud of each and every candidate who submitted an application. We have a loyal group of young fans, and it was hard to narrow the list down to 25 finalists—nevermind 12 winners!” said Lynne Bohan, a Hood spokesperson. “We’re excited with the group we ended up with and are looking forward to working with them over the next two years. They’re all great ambassadors for Kid Nation.”
The Captains will begin their two-year tenures following a pre-game ceremony on the field at the Fenway Park on June 22nd. Each Captain will receive two tickets to that day’s game versus the Atlanta Braves as well as a specially designed jersey and free Hood Red Sox Ice Cream for a year.
Then it’s time to get down to business. The Captains will organize and help implement a community service event that will take place later this year. As part of the application process each candidate was required to answer the following question:
“Kids helping kids” is a big part of what Red Sox Kid Nation is all about. The Kid Nation Captains do a community service event each year to further this mission. What would you like the Kid Nation Captains to do to assist families in need?”
Twenty-five finalists were selected based on their essays as well as answers to questions like “Who is your favorite player?” and “What is your favorite Red Sox moment?” After that it was up to all of Kid Nation to vote online for their favorite candidates. Voting ran from June 4th through June 8th on RedSox.com.
