The company's plans include adding capacity to General Mills' Greek-style Yoplait line, an advertising campaign and possibly new products under different brands, according to Food Navigator. The Star Tribune also published a Greek-yogurt story over the weekend with much of the same information, but it's premium.
The company's plans are a reaction to the out-of-nowhere growth of Greek-style yogurt. An executive noted that virtually all of the U.S. yogurt growth is coming from that category, which is higher in protein and lower in sugar than traditional styles. The surge has helped the niche brand Chobani take a bigger slice of the market.
