ABINGDON, Va. — Food City plans to begin purchasing its eggs from local suppliers.
The grocery store chain announced Thursday it will buy eggs from Abingdon-based Dutt & Wagner, which will result in job creation and a $6 million boost to the local economy.
“Food City is a locally owned and operated company and we make every effort to buy locally whenever possible,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer. “Buying local is the logical choice. It provides our customers with the freshest possible product, while lending additional support to our local economies.”
Food City and Dutt & Wagner are longtime partners, with the retailer having purchased select egg products and hens from Dutt & Wagner for a number of years.
