Dean Foods On Why There's No Egg Nog In July

Few holiday staples are tied to winter quite like egg nog.
Sure, lamb, turkey, goose and ham have their place, but those can be enjoyed year-round.
Finding a carton of fresh, rich and creamy egg nog in July, however, is next to impossible. It’s as elusive as the McRib in the winter.
To find out why that is, we reached out to Dean Foods, owner of Nashville-based Purity Dairies. In 2010, the company produced more than 5.1 million gallons of the milky beverage nationwide.
“Almost consistently across the board, Jan. 2 hits and sales plummet,” said Jamaison Schuler, a Dean Foods spokesperson. “People are just done buying egg nog at that time of year.”
