PRICHARD, Ala. — Dairy Fresh of Alabama LLC will close its Prichard milk plant at the end of July, cutting as many as 116 jobs.
The firm, a subsidiary of Dallas-based National Dairy LLC, will consolidate production in Hattiesburg, Miss., and Dothan.
Spokesman Fred Stern said those plants have spare processing capacity and are more centrally located than the 509 South Craft Highway facility, which opened in 1947. All three plants, plus one in Baker, La., process and bottle milk, and bottle other dairy products and fruit drinks sold under the Dairy Fresh, Sunni-land and Jersey Farm brands.
Stern said that workers have been offered enhanced severance packages and retention bonuses to stay on the job through July 31.
