Alpine Slicing and Cheese Conversion Co., Monroe, said Tuesday it has filed a voluntary petition for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization with the U.S. District Court in Madison.
The locally owned, private-label cheese packaging company, established in 2005, will continue operating, and all of its 90 employees will keep their jobs during the bankruptcy proceeding, corporate secretary Shirley Knox said in a news release.
She said the company is "strong" and vendor payments are up to date, but Alpine is concerned about claims from retail business customers related to a cheese recall in late 2011 after laboratory tests found the presence of Listeria bacteria.
