APPLETON — Mark Lamers, president of Lamers Dairy in Appleton, said his first memory of working in his family’s bottling plant was at age 6 or 7 when he was just big enough to push a broom and empty wastebaskets.
“Dad always said he wasn’t going to create a position for any of his kids,” Lamers said. “If there was a position available and we wanted to work in the business we’d have to be just like any other employee, but because our name was on the package, we had to work harder than anyone else too. That still kind of follows through today.”
That work ethic and pride in being “Dairyland’s Best” has followed the Lamers family through a century of change in the dairy industry and into its fifth generation of milk bottling in the heart of the Fox River Valley.
