DeWitt, N.Y. — The Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency has approved $2.1 million in tax exemptions for a $32.5 million expansion of Byrne Dairy's processing plant in DeWitt.

The agency's directors voted 7-0 today to approve of the exemptions, which will save the family-owned dairy company $960,000 in sales taxes on construction materials, $848,552 in property taxes over 10 years and $300,000 in mortgage recording tax. The company will have to pay the agency a $325,000 fee, however.

Byrne is planning to break ground this fall on an approximately 100,000-square-foot addition, the third expansion since it opened the Ultra Dairy plant on West Benedict Road, overlooking Interstate 481, in 2003.
