WinCo Foods announced today that it is issuing a voluntary Class I recall on all ground beef products sold at its Modesto, California store between the dates of Saturday, April 3, 2010 and Friday, April 9, 2010. The store is located at 2200 Plaza Parkway in Modesto. At this point the recall pertains only to the Modesto, California store.

In February 2010, the USDAs National Organic Program released the long-awaited organic pasture rule, specifying that ruminant livestock, such as dairy cows and beef cattle, must obtain a minimum of 30% of their feed from pasture during the grazing season. Rather than take a position either supporting or opposing the new rules exemption, The Cornucopia Institute proposes a three-tiered labeling system for meat from ruminants.
