Hostess Brands Inc. announced today that it would close its Wonder Bread distribution center in Davenport, effective Aug. 7.
Citing “current market conditions,” the company reported that the closure will result in 33 people working at the facility to lose their jobs. About 24 route sales people who transfer products to area depots, and additional workers in two outlet stores, will retain their jobs. The distribution center operations will be moved to Peoria, Ill.
“Changes in local market conditions, including declining bread purchases by area consumers, made it necessary for the company to close the distribution facility,” the company said in a news release.
