UTICA — Utica Bread has ceased its wholesale distribution services, said Owner Tim Hardiman.
That is not necessarily a bad thing, he said. In fact, it’s a response to a retail market that is “booming.”
“The reality is, when we’re producing 100 percent hand-made bread … wholesale distribution is just a bear,” Hardiman said. “Your average wholesale price is about 30 to 35 percent less than the retail price, and then you factor in distribution (prices) … we’re losing money on it.”
