Chicago-based Poppie’s baking company has hit it big with United Airlines. The maker of a wide variety of sweet treats has signed a deal to provide United, the world’s largest airline, with cookies and scones for first class meals on all North American flights.

The baking company’s chocolate chip cookies will be offered with United’s lunch and dinner services. Scones in three flavors — cinnamon chip, cranberry raisin and lemon apricot — will replace the muffins that were served for breakfast. The new offerings will be available on flights starting Thursday.

A United spokesman said the switch to Poppie’s products is part of an ongoing effort at the carrier to work with smaller businesses that offer good products.

Poppie’s owner Ronnie Himmel said her company, founded in 1973, is well-known within the baking industry, though it doesn’t have a high profile among the general public.
