Associated British Foods says Tesco has made a “mistake” by removing its Kingsmill bread brand from supermarkets.
Tesco has delisted Kingsmill bread from its 3,000 British stores as the retailer tries to cut costs by reducing the number of products it stocks. The supermarket chain is instead focusing on rival brands Hovis and Warburtons.
The delisting of such a well-known food brand highlights the changes taking place in the grocery industry and how the pressure on the major retailers is filtering down to suppliers.
George Weston, chief executive of ABF, which also owns Primark and Twinings tea, said he was “disappointed” by Tesco’s decision but is in talks with the retailer about trying to get Kingsmill back into its stores.
