Bedford, N.H. – The award winning design team of Triolo’s Bakery swept the National Capital Area Cake Show on Feb. 21, 2015 in Fairfax, Virginia. Led by Master Cake Artist Bryson Perkins, Creative Director of Triolo’s Bakery, the team prevailed in the Professional Novelty Tiered Cakes, Master’s Sculpted Cake, Master’s Special Techniques’, Master’s Floral Fantasy, and Professional Wedding Cakes Division. Perkins also won the Grand Prize, and People’s Choice awards.

The National Capital Area Cake Show is one of the largest cake shows in the United States and featured over 200 artists from around the world.

“Although it is flattering to be recognized amongst my peers”, said Master Cake Artist Perkins, “I am honored to win People’s Choice!”

More than 3,000 people attended the competition. First time competitor and Lead Designer of Triolo’s Bakery, Amanda Cote, won First Place in the Professional Novelty Tiered Cake for her “Surging Paradise” cake design.

“When I first started working at Triolo’s Bakery under Bryson’s leadership, it took almost a year to master some of his techniques”, said Cote. “It was incredible to win this award and have a chance to showcase my work”, she added. One of Cote's favorite designs was the Nantucket Lightship Basket Birthday Cake she made for a customer last year.

Master Cake Artist Perkins captured first place in the Professional Cake Wedding Cake Division. This year’s theme was “Sing Me a Love Song” and entries were required to draw inspiration from a popular love song. Perkin’s choice was “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from his favorite movie Disney’s Lion King.

“I wanted to include scenes that depicted different types of love such as the romance between Simba and Nala, the family love such between the Mother and Baby Elephant, and the friendship between Timon and Pumbaa,” said Perkins. Other elements included pulled sugar waterfalls, colorful hand-layered sugar beads, realistic tropical plants, and hand sculpted animal figurines.

In the Masters Special Technique Category, Perkins won First Place, Best of Division – Masters, and Divisional Grand Prize for his Exotic Lizard piece. The hand sculpted lizards were made from modeling chocolate, and dusted with brilliant colors from Crystal Colors. Perkins also won First Place in the Masters Sculpted Cake Category and First Place in Masters Floral Fantasy Category.
