Thomas' Takes The Breakfast Battle On The Road In Search Of America's Best Breakfast Recipe

HORSHAM, Pa. — From the sunny streets of Los Angeles to the southern charm of Charleston, the Thomas'® brand — a staple at breakfast tables for more than 135 years — is revving up everyone's culinary engines to drive food trucks from your local street corner into the national spotlight in search of America's best breakfast recipe. The recent surge in popularity of all things breakfast, coupled with the explosion of the food truck industry, has set the stage for the ultimate breakfast showdown where 50 food trucks from 50 cities across the country will compete in the Thomas' Breakfast Battle contest.

Last year, Thomas' celebrated its 135th Anniversary with the inaugural Hometown Breakfast Battle where 135 chefs nationwide put their own spin on the most important meal of the day utilizing Thomas' iconic English Muffins and Bagels. For 2016, Thomas' is taking the popular competition on the road with the Thomas' Breakfast Battle: Food Truck Edition. Innovative chefs from locally acclaimed food trucks nationwide have been challenged to create the ultimate breakfast recipe inspired by the cuisine of their food truck. From Korean barbeque to macaroni and cheese, each truck has broken the traditional breakfast boundaries and drawn inspiration from their unique offerings to create one-of-a-kind recipes sure to delight, using Thomas' products as the main ingredient.

Just in time for National Breakfast Month, voting will begin on Sept. 12, when fans can visit the contest website, ThomasBreakfastBattle.com, to view all 50 recipes and learn more about each participating food truck. Fans can also follow the contest route online with a food truck locator to identify where and when their local truck will be serving up its contest recipe.

The competition will run for a five-week period in which consumers can vote once per day for their favorite recipe and will automatically be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win free Thomas' products daily and the consumer grand prize of $5,000 at the end of the sweepstakes. After one week of consumer voting, the competition will be narrowed to 25 trucks that will move on to the second round. Voting will continue for three more rounds where the pool will be reduced to 10, then five, then two before the truck with the most votes will receive the ultimate title of "Thomas' Breakfast Battle: Food Truck Edition Champion" and the grand prize of $25,000. For official rules for the sweepstakes, visit ThomasBreakfastBattle.com.

"Last year's Thomas' Breakfast Battle was wildly popular, garnering more than 480,000 consumer votes during the competition. Food truck fever has swept the culinary world and created a fun and exciting way to bring new cuisines and offerings to consumers," said Jon Silvon, Senior Marketing Director of Thomas' products. "We're always looking to find new ways for our fans to enjoy Thomas' iconic English Muffins and Bagels — and there's no better way than to challenge the chefs behind some of the country's most innovative and exciting food trucks to go head to head and create America's ultimate breakfast recipe in the latest version of the Thomas' Breakfast Battle."

Thomas' Breads dates back to 1880 when Samuel Bath Thomas created his original English Muffin in New York City using a secret process that included griddle baking to create a muffin filled with Nooks and Crannies goodness. The company later added bagels to its breakfast offerings. Today, the Thomas' English Muffin is the #1 selling English Muffin and a favorite breakfast product in America.
