Save-On-Foods Updates Customers On Bread Rebate Plans

LANGLEY, BC – Save-On-Foods has moved quickly to look after its loyal customers who may have been impacted by the illegal bread-price fixing scheme admitted to by some competitors and suppliers and have alleged against other competitors and suppliers.  Save-On-Foods only became aware of this scheme for the first time in late 2017 and it is something that Save-On-Foods had no involvement.

Today, Save-On-Foods issued a follow up letter to its loyal customers.

In it, the letter states, "one of our competitors who has admitted guilt is providing a $25 shopping incentive to their customers.   We know that you, as our valued More Rewards customer, could have been impacted with higher bread prices.  So we're making it easy for you to receive our own$25 offer, through our More Rewards program. We in turn, will seek compensation from the bread suppliers involved, in due course."

Save-On-Foods president Darrell Jones said, "We were not a target of the competition bureau investigation and we had no knowledge of, or involvement in, this illegal scheme. But we want to look after our customers, and be completely clear and transparent about our plans."

The company has created a website where More Rewards cardholders can sign up to receive a $25rebate electronically. Registration closes April 30, 2018. The website is www.morerewards.ca/25

Eligible customers who register will receive an email, starting February 1, 2018, which will allow them to load the offer directly to their More Rewards account after completing a few easy steps.

Then, their next transaction over $25 before taxes will result in an immediate credit of $25 off their grocery bill, right there at the checkout.  At that point, customers will also have the option, if they choose to, of directing the value of this credit instead, to their local food bank.

To be eligible for this offer:

  • Customers must have had an active More Rewards card before December 31, 2017
  • More Rewards cardholders who do not have an online account will need to set one up
  • Customers must be over the age of majority
  • When registering, customers must acknowledge that they purchased commercial bread from Save-On-Foods sometime in the past 14 years.

The rebate will not be available for use for tobacco, alcohol, prescriptions or lottery products and will be limited to one per household and if not used, will expire at the end of 2018.

The letter to customers, signed by Jones, reads as follows:

Dear valued Save-On-Foods customers,

I'm writing to you because we're deeply concerned about what's happened with the bread price-fixing issue that was going on in Canada by certain competitors and suppliers. It is important for you to know that we at Save-On-Foods had no knowledge of, nor were we involved in, this illegal activity.

One of our competitors who has admitted guilt is providing a $25 shopping incentive to their customers.   We know that you, as our valued More Rewards customer, could have been impacted with higher bread prices.  So we're making it easy for you to receive our own $25 offer, through our More Rewards program. We in turn, will seek compensation from the bread suppliers involved, in due course. You can use this $25 in our stores, and at the same time, you will be signed up for even more great offers and information.  And in keeping with our commitment to supporting those less fortunate, we'll be giving you the option to re-direct this $25 to your local food bank.

You have a right to choose how you spend your grocery shopping dollars.  On behalf of our 18,000 local team members, we thank you for choosing us.
