SAC CITY, Iowa — OK. Let’s get this out of the way first: It works best with
Bud Light or Busch Light. But it bakes with any beer. Also works with Sprite or
any carbonated soda.
It is beer bread, the “bread-n-butter” of Sac City’s Amanda Lynch,
owner/president of The Beer Bread Company.
Lynch’s firm, which employs 10 part-timers, seems to have filled a niche among
Northwest Iowa specialty foods. What began as a low-key craft sale idea has
blossomed into a business that keeps this mother of five hopping to food and
craft shows across the Midwest.
How it rises
The Beer Bread Company wasn’t a blip on Lynch’s radar a few years ago. She
simply knew she and her family enjoyed eating this bread that rises when baked
with beer or a carbonated substance. The alcohol bakes out of the food.
