Owners Vow To Rebuild After Fire Rips Through Edmonton's Italian Bakery

The owners of the family-owned Italian Bakery are scrambling to figure out how to supply fresh bread to hundreds of clients and to their downtown shop after their northeast-Edmonton location was destroyed by fire overnight Saturday.

“This location is almost the beating heart (of the business),” said co-owner Renato Frattin Sunday morning as he stood outside the blackened building at 4118 118 Avenue, where the company made about 99 per cent of its bread.

“We can’t do the production in our other location. We don’t have the pans, we don’t have the right machines and there’s not enough room there to supply our customers at this point. We’re just in limbo right now. We don’t have a plan … I’ve been up all night.”
