NEW YORK — Love and Quiches Desserts® (www.loveandquiches.com), one of the nation’s leading gourmet dessert and quiche manufacturers, announced a major milestone: the company is celebrating its 40th anniversary in business.
“When I founded this business back in 1973, as a humble enterprise based out of my own home kitchen, I never envisioned my ‘hobby’ would grow into what it is today – a multimillion dollar global brand,” says Susan Axelrod, chairwoman and founder of Love and Quiches. “It has been a wonderful journey, one filled with change and excitement and, above all, the extraordinary opportunity to share my passion for quality food with so many.”
Love and Quiches’ 40 years in business has brought with it many noteworthy milestones including its exponential growth, from kitchen to garage, then to a small factory and all the way to the company’s present 45,000-square-foot facility in Freeport, New York. Select highlights include:
• An expansion of Love and Quiches’ entirely scratch-baked product lines, from its original quiche and pecan pie to a wide array of products, including its newest dessert, Greek yogurt cheesecake
• The exporting of the US-based company’s products internationally, to restaurants and retail stores in locations as far reaching as the Middle East and Asia
• The launch of its popular Gourmet Grab & Go® snack product line
• Its certification as a New York State Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE)
• A growing presence online and in social media, including a well-followed blog by its founder, www.susansweettalk.com
Building on Sweet Success
Forty years of success does not mean that Love and Quiches is content to rest on its substantial laurels. The company plans to continue to innovate and advance, keeping ahead of trends and, in some cases, creating them. “We will remain on the cutting edge of quality and service by doing what we’ve always done – delivering trend-responsive product lines that speak to the needs of our customers,” says Andy Axelrod, president of Love and Quiches and Susan’s son.
In addition to Andy Axelrod, other family members have integrated their diverse skills and expertise by joining the business. Irwin Axelrod, Susan’s husband, joined the firm in 1980 and has served as financial advisor ever since, while daughter Joan Axelrod-Siegelwax joined Love and Quiches just before its 25th anniversary and is its vice president of sales and marketing.
Susan, on top of serving as chairwoman of her company, is active in the business community. She is an in-demand speaker and a mentor to other female entrepreneurs in the industry. She has also been honored with many awards throughout the years, including the Roundtable for Women in Foodservice’s Pacesetter Award in Manufacturing (1987), the National Association of Women Business Owners’ (NAWBO) Woman of the Year Award (1995) and its Businesswoman of Excellence (2011), among others.
Giving Back
Since its beginning, Love and Quiches has recognized the need to give back. “Our ongoing commitment to philanthropy is one of the things we are most proud of,” says Joan Axelrod-Siegelwax. Love and Quiches actively supports the Wounded Warriors program, which assists active duty and veteran war fighters, and created the Cakes for Kids® program, which combats children’s hunger. The company donates a portion of sales proceeds to both annually. The firm also regularly gives to, and participates in, charitable causes, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk to Cure Diabetes.
Cause for Celebration
In honor of its 40th anniversary, Love and Quiches has released a special commemorative logo to be used in its marketing materials and on its products. The company is also hosting a champagne and dessert party during the National Restaurant Association’s annual trade show weekend in Chicago. The celebration will pay tribute to the customers, business partners and employees who have helped Love and Quiches become an industry leader.
“The first 40 years have been wonderful, filled with many memories and milestones,” says Susan Axelrod. “I, along with my family and wonderful staff, several of whom have been with us since the start, are looking forward to our future growth and expansion with the same enthusiasm and excitement as we did in 1973.”
