LINPAC Packaging is set to expand its LeanBake bakery packaging range later this year with new portion packs for the sweet confectionery food to go market such as individual cake slices and muffins.
The packs have been designed for the on the go consumption market and will sit alongside the recently launched Freshware range in retailer chilled cabinets, as well as in the bakery aisle.
The new LeanBake portion packs are designed with lightweight bases and lids with a contemporary look & feel and do not compromise on the functionality needed in the sensitive bakery and confectionary packaging market. They are an ideal option for retailers and bakers looking for a low carbon packaging solution. Available in a variety of sizes and colours, in both single and twin food portion formats, the packs are suitable for individual cake or pastry slices, muffins, tarts, choux buns and donuts etc.
Alan Davey, Director of Innovation at LINPAC Packaging, said: “Individual portion packs are becoming increasingly common on supermarket shelves across all sectors as retailers and manufacturers respond to trends such as the rise in single-person households, increasing health awareness, on the go consumption and the need to reduce food waste.
“At LINPAC we have a long history of supplying packs with convenience in mind for a variety of foods packers and retailers, as well as foodservice operators. Our experience in this area has meant we have developed a range of packaging solutions to reduce the problem of food spoilage and ensure bakery items in particular remain fresh, sweet or crispy as needed. The addition of portion packs to the LeanBake bakery packaging range is a natural progression for LINPAC so that we address the demographic trends across all our sectors.”
Mr Davey added: “The technical innovation which has gone into the bakery portion packs’ design enables the containers to be lighter than our previous designs without affecting the pack’s rigidity and protective qualities. This ensures bakery items are not damaged during transit and consumers can enjoy their pastry just as it was when first bought in-store. The development comes in direct response to calls from bakers and manufacturers who have been asking for packaging which minimises their costs and impact on the environment.”
Ideal for croissants, Danish pastries, tarts and muffins, the complete LeanBake range is available in a range of sizes which can be easily displayed on-shelf. The containers have a premium appearance to enhance product value through better presentation and have been designed to help keep products fresh and tasty. Including hinged hermetic and semi-hermetic boxes as well as a variety of base and lid solutions, the range now meets the varied demands of the entire bakery sector.
For example, hermetic boxes have been developed especially for sponge-based products to keep moisture within the pack so that they stay fresher for longer, whilst standard boxes are slightly vented on three sides to allow air to circulate and ensure that pastry products such as croissants and Danish pastries retain their crispiness.
Particular attention has also been paid to the stacking design of the LeanBake range in order that boxes and packs stack easily and uniformly to assist in the production process, driving factory efficiency and ultimately cost-reductions for the manufacturer. The design also ensures excellent visibility associated with PET which is required for bakery products to tempt consumers to purchase more and drive sales for the retailer.
Finally, LINPAC Packaging has also ensured that the design of the corner radius is such that it assists with the opening of the packs, improving ease of use for the consumer, and the external dimensions of the boxes have been adapted so that they fit on the standard European pallet.
