As Napa businesses calculated their earnings from the holiday season, Latino bakeries in the valley geared up for their biggest sales day of the year, Dia de los Reyes or Three Kings Day on Thursday.
Napa bakeries have been taking orders for weeks for Roscas de Reyes, the traditional cakes that signify a wiseman’s gift and are often eaten with hot chocolate on Jan. 6.
“It’s the best day of sales for us, but it means a lot more work,” said Lucy Quiñones, owner of Lucy’s Bakery on Jefferson Street.
Her bakery usually makes about $4,000 selling Roscas, Reyes said. This year, they had more than 350 orders for their cakes, priced at $15, $20 and $25, depending on size.
