ROCKFORD — Those brightly colored boxes of Girl Scouts cookies won’t look or taste as familiar this year, but don’t panic.
You can still get your cookie fix on the same schedule. Changes in the cookie program this year — which include a price bump from $3.50 to $4 a box — are all part of a national plan to revamp Girl Scout operations, a plan that started in 2009 and included the merger of four regional councils in this area into one.
Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois, which today is made up of more than 20,000 girls from Rockford to Sugar Grove, signed a three-year deal with Little Brownie Bakers of Louisville, Ky. That’s a new baker for this area and means the cookies you taste this year will be the same cookies you’ll be tasting through 2013.
