WASHINGTON, D.C. Former Virginia Governor, US Senator and current candidate for US Senate, George Allen, will address the ABA and ATBI Boards of Directors during their Joint Meeting on October 2 in Washington, D.C.

"George Allen is a results oreinted leader with a history of balancing budgets and promoting common sense fiscal policy," said ABA President and CEO Robb MacKie. "We look forward to discussing with Governor Allen his ideas and plans to develop sustainable economic growth polies in Washington."

George Allen is currently a candidate in the 2012 election for the previous seat he held US Senate, running against former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. He will speak to the Boards on the pressing issues in this coming election including healthcare, federal tax and spending policy, and his proposals to promote economic growth for the country, among other topics.

Allen has held a distinguished career in public service. He was sworn in as Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1994 and accomplished major reform in favor of economic development, public safety, education accountability, welfare reform, reduced government spending and creative government. As US Senator, Allen advocated for the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts that opened opportunities for job creation and created the Competitive Caucus. He also introduced and fought for budget reform in Congress, including a balanced budget amendment, line item veto, and a paycheck penalty for Members of Congress when they fail to pass appropriations bills on time.

The 2012 Joint ABA & ATBI Boards of Directors Meeting and ABA Committee Meetings will be held from October 1-4, in Washington, D.C. The meetings will feature participation from industry leaders who represent the whole of ABA and ATBI membership as well as discussions on key issues impacting the baking industry.
