Thomasville, Ga.-based Flowers Foods, Inc. notified the state of North Carolina Thursday that it plans to permanently shut down its Winston-Salem snack cake bakery facility at 315 Cassell Street on Oct. 8 and lay off 169 employees.
Company officials said the “major reasons for this business decision are outdated equipment and insufficient volume to justify keeping the bakery open," according to a WARNnoticed obtained by TBJ.
The affected positions include director of engineering, building maintenance mechanic, three engineering supervisors, two inventory control clerks, an environmental safety and security director, oven operator and human resources director.
