Des Plaines, IL – Batory Foods is pleased to introduce three, recently appointed associates to our world-class team of food industry professionals.
Product Manager Matt Hernal joined Batory Foods in July 2011, bringing with him many years of buying experience in the bakery industry. At Batory, Hernal oversees purchasing and procurement for Batory’s line of flour, oats, cornmeal and vital wheat gluten. In addition to securing the best prices for Batory’s customers, Hernal is tasked with keeping Batory’s sales force abreast of the ever-changing market conditions that affect his ingredient line.
“Batory’s line of flour, oats, cornmeal and vital wheat gluten is incredibly far-ranging,” says the Marquette University graduate. “This gives me the opportunity to build our client base as well as to connect with Batory’s existing customers—ensuring that they’re aware of all that we have to offer in this product line.”
In June 2011, Ravi Somanahally was appointed Batory Foods’ Director of Quality Assurance, a newly created position. “The fact that this is a new position sends the message that Batory is deeply committed to taking food quality assurance to the next level, meeting and exceeding the regulatory requirements faced by the food industry,” says Somanahally. “As a result, we know that we can enable our customers’ success in marketing and manufacturing products of the highest standards.”
For 28 years in the U.S. and abroad, Somanahally has led quality assurance for manufacturers across sectors, including meat, CPG foods, bakery, dairy and the airline catering business, among others. Somanahally’s far-reaching experience with manufacturers gives him a unique ability to understand Batory customers’ intended results, providing counsel to make sure they achieve them. Somanahally’s many credentials include certifications as an NSF International HACCP Manager and an AIB Quality Control Sanitarian.
In March 2011, Tom Tang joined Batory as Product Manager, Fine Ingredients. In this role, he ensures that Batory’s sales representatives have the breadth of technical and marketplace knowledge necessary to represent Batory’s Fine Ingredients portfolio. With more than 15 years of account and product management experience at companies with global footprints—including Univar and Brenntag—Tang is also currently building Batory Foods’ strategic plan for providing customers both domestically and globally sourced ingredients.
“Because Batory is committed to providing our customers with a complete solution, we recognize that global sourcing will be a key element in the future,” says Tang, an alum of UCLA. “It will give our customers access to additional, attractive economies, not to mention quality materials. For me, it’s exciting to be part of a company that’s growing in that way—but also to have a hand in that growth.”
