Family Business Award Winner: Cellone's Italian Bread
May 3, 2018 | 1 min to read
After coming to the U.S. from Torino, Italy, brothers Antonio and Raffaele Cellone started baking in a brick oven they built in the basement of their house in 1911 and delivered fresh-baked goods door-to-door by horse-drawn wagon.
Now in its fourth generation of ownership with 13 family members among the 155 employees, Cellone’s Italian Bread Co. is the largest commercial bread bakery in western Pennsylvania.
After Randy Cellone served in Vietnam, he came back to work in the family business, helping his older brother Jay Cellone run the business after their father passed away. When Jay retired in 2006, Randy became president, and he credits much of the bakery’s success to his upbringing in the business. Whenever the brothers had free time growing up, they worked in the bakery.
