Earth Island Recalls Select Lots Of Gluten-Free Millet Bread

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Earth Island is conducting a voluntary recall on its distribution of the Rising Hearts Gluten-Free Millet Bread as a precautionary measure due to possible Listeria contamination of sunflower seeds from the sunflower seed supplier. 

The recalled products contain roasted sunflower seeds manufactured by SunOpta. Rising Hearts Gluten-Free Millet Bread is sold at grocery stores and served in restaurants in the Southern California region.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. No illnesses have been reported from this product. Earth Island is initiating this recall out of an abundance of caution.

No other Rising Hearts products are included in the recall.
