It’s déjà vu for a New York City-based cupcake bakery: Crumbs Bake Shop is once again closing down its stores, this time in favor of building up its online business, according to Boston Restaurant Talk.
If this story sounds familiar, there is a good reason. In the summer of 2014, Crumbs shuttered its 48 stores, only to reopen 26 locations when TV entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis bought it out of bankruptcy. Just under a year later, Lemonis sold his stake in the company to Fischer Enterprises, which owns Dippin’ Dots. Lemonis has since moved on to other food ventures, including a fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant chain called The Simple Greek, which will open a Boston-area location.
