Ask Robert Veniero, the third generation scion of Veniero’s Pastry, the venerable East Village bakery, to name customer’s favorite pastries, and he rattles off one after another of them. He spews out a host of pastries including cannolis, pignoli cookies, rainbow cookies, jelly cookies, strawberry cheesecake, New York cheesecake, mousse, and dare he leaves out, fruit supreme.

At Veniero’s, just about every pastry constitutes a specialty, and that could be one of the secrets of its longevity. It has been going strong since 1894 when it debuted on East 11th Street, off of First Avenue.

To stay in business, Veniero also wholesales pastries to restaurants, has introduced a liquor license, opened outdoor dining, and is now associated with several online delivery services.
