Brookings, SD's Newest Bakery Is 'Old School'

Brookings’ newest bakery is planning to keep things simple and keep customers coming back for its made-from-scratch artisan breads and pastries.
“We’re not trying to do everything, we’re just trying to do artisan bread, artisan pastries, and then supply good milk and then good, premium condiments,” said Brice McDonald, who owns Buttercrust Bakery with his wife, Kasandra.
“As far as a plan to add stuff to the menu or create a lunch menu or something, I have no (plans for that). It’s just an old-school, artisan bakery.”
The McDonalds opened Buttercrust Bakery on Black Friday, after about a year of planning and working to make the business a reality. It is located in the Calla Center on Sixth Street, between Qdoba and Choco Latte.
