As Benson’s Hospitality Group grows with a new hotel under construction in Athens, its flagship bakery in Bogart will complete significant expansion this July. The company will turn 100 next year.
A new 100,000 square-foot on-site facility consisting of a freezer, cooler and dry storage will eliminate the need for outside storage and allow for expanding production capacity at Benson’s Bakery. Benson’s will be able to store all finished goods, ingredients and packaging on the Bogart campus. The expansion will also include 17 dock doors. The Bogart facility was originally designed to produce fruitcakes but a number of product lines have been added over the years, including crème cakes, pound cakes and angel food cakes.
The company was founded in 1918 by W.H. “Howard” Benson, who died in 1971 at age 83. He passed the business down to his son, H.E. “Ed” Benson, before Ed’s son, Larry R. Benson took the reins.
