A Tustin food plant that supplies desserts and pastries to clients ranging
from Panera Bread to Wal-Mart Inc. has closed, forcing the facility to lay off
90 workers.
Michigan-based Dawn Foods, a global supplier of baked goods to food retailers
and restaurants, confirmed this week that the plant closed Jan. 15 as part of a
company-wide initiative to consolidate manufacturing to save costs.
“This move is really about making sure we are as efficient as possible,” said
spokesman Stephen Lee.
The shuttering of the Tustin plant, he added, is not related to less demand for
its products.
The Tusin plant produced shortbread cookies, muffins, cakes and brownies for
supermarket and restaurant brands such as Panera Bread, Walmart stores
