WASHINGTON, DC – The American Bakers Association (ABA) thanks Representative Diane Black (TN-06) and Representative Elise Stefanik (NY-21) for their introduction of H.R. 3825, The Harmonization of Coverage Act of 2017.
“ABA thanks the leadership of Representatives Black and Stefanik toward achieving a common-sense, consistent definition of employee across federal statute,” said Robb MacKie, ABA President and CEO.
The baking industry is a large user of independent contractors for their direct service delivery (DSD) systems. Many bakers sell delivery routes to independent distributors, who deploy their fleet and keep stores stocked with freshly baked goods.
“Independent Contractors are essential to many bakery distribution networks,” said Mike Goscinski, Director, Government Relations. “This legislation provides clarity for our members to continue growing relationships with hard-working entrepreneurs to produce and deliver freshly baked, wholesome products.”
