Award-Winning NJ Bakery In Talks With Grocery Chains To Supply Gluten-Free Goodies

ROCKAWAY The aroma of coconut oil and almond extract wafts through Starseed Bakery on Hibernia Avenue as bakers slide fresh batches of Almond Cranberry Love Bites into the ovens. A customer comes in for her Tuesday afternoon fix of organic coffee.

Since February, when this dedicated gluten-free production facility opened, it has been busily creating its specialty products — gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, GMO-free breads, sandwich rolls, muffins, cakes, cupcakes, cookies and pies.

“The GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) issue started me on this quest,” said owner Linda Beg of Denville, who once ran the now-defunct Thrive New Jersey, a grassroots group dedicated to raising awareness about GMOs.
