AKRON, Ohio – Bakers Steve Marks and Harvey Nelson knew they had a problem.
The lifelong friends and co-founders of Main Street Gourmet still loved baking thousands of muffins, brownies and cookies for supermarkets and restaurants, but they wanted to decrease their roles.
So last October, they started looking for investors to buy an ownership stake in their company, people who'd appreciate their passion for the business and want to see them grow.
"We're in our early 50s now and it made sense to take some chips off the table," Marks said at the company's Muffin Lane headquarters on Thursday.
Their search led them to Clover Capital Partners LLC and partners David Choe of Los Angeles and Alex Schneider of Evanston, Ill., who two weeks ago became majority owners of Main Street Gourmet for an undisclosed sum.
