Ukrop’s White House Rolls — whether topped with a slice of country ham, or a dollop of pimiento cheese or chicken salad, or eaten plain — are having a moment in the spotlight.
Ukrop’s Super Markets began selling the rolls 30 years ago.
The grocery chain is no more, sold in 2010 to the company that owns Martin’s Food Markets, but the rolls still are coming off the bakery production line at Henrico County-based Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods, the company founded by the Ukrop family to continue to produce many of the former retailer’s signature prepared foods.
