WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of the American Bakers Association (ABA) Fall Policy Conference, ABA is pleased to offer five Committee Meeting Breakout specializations for industry education, targeted by area of expertise, which will be held in Washington, D.C., Sept. 10-12, 2018.
“Whether you’re a new ABA participant or a longstanding member, the ABA Fall Policy Conference holds value if you want to learn how federal policy issues impact your company’s bottom line or be actively involved in building consensus on critical priorities to guide the industry toward success,” said ABA SVP, Government Relations & Public Affairs Lee Sanders. “The conference is packed with subject matter experts, who will educate attendees on a variety of important issues that directly affect the baking industry. It also provides an excellent introduction for professionals who want to propel the interests of the industry by participating in educational opportunities.”
The five Committee Meeting Breakouts include the following:
- Food Technical Regulatory Affairs Committee (FTRAC) – professionals who are responsible for regulatory affairs, food safety, quality assurance, marketing, and research and development
- Legal Committee – professionals who work in compliance or legal fields
- Energy and Environment Committee (EEC) – professionals who work in sustainability, energy or environment fields
- Human Relations and Safety Committee (HR & Safety) – professionals who work in human resources, workplace safety, workplace development or labor regulatory fields
- Logistics – professionals who work in distribution, logistics or transportation
Highlights of the FTRAC Meeting:
- Prop 65, including a presentation from the National Association of Wheat Growers
- Food Safety, including “Food Safety Strategies” from ClorDiSys Solutions Director of Operations Paul Lorcheim, and “National Grain and Feed Association’s Sanitary Transport Best Practices Update” from ADM Milling Director, Food Safety & Regulatory Ron Galle
- Nutrition, including USDA’s Bioengineered Labeling Proposed Rule and 2020 Dietary Guidelines Review
Highlights of the HR & Safety Meeting:
The HR & Safety Committee has slated U.S. Chamber of Commerce VP of Employment Policy Marc Freedman to present “What’s in the Rule? OSHA Proposed Rule on E-Record Keeping and Injury/Illness Reporting.” Freedman develops the Chamber’s response to workplace policy matters, such as union organizing and other labor management issues; overtime, minimum wage, and other Fair Labor Standards Act issues; paid leave and FMLA issues; and OSHA and workplace safety issues. He holds Capitol Hill experience, having served as the regulatory counsel for the Senate Small Business Committee under the chairmanships of Sens. Kit Bond (R-MO) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME).
Additionally, the HR & Safety Committee has secured Littler Shareholder Paul Kennedy to educate attendees on “How to Best Protect Your Company’s Proprietary Information During Off-boarding Processes.” A trial lawyer with more than 30 years of experience, Kennedy holds relevant experience in employment issues, including terminations, reductions in force, leave issues, wage disputes, investigations, employee theft, union issues and intellectual property protection, among others.
