ABA Commends Schwebel's Bakery Hall Of Fame Induction

ABA commends the American Society of Baking for inducting Joseph Schwebel, past President of Schwebel Baking Company, into the Baking Hall of Fame. Under Mr. Schwebel’s leadership, Schwebel Baking evolved into a strong, family-led regional baking company that was nationally recognized for its outstanding products and industry leadership.  His quiet, unassuming leadership style belied an incredibly sharp business acumen. Mr. Schwebel took an already strong company culture and propelled it into what it is today.

“As impressive as his accomplishments at Schwebel Baking were, what distinguishes Mr. Schwebel as such a deserving Baking Hall of Fame candidate was his deep commitment to growing and strengthening the baking industry,” said ABA President & CEO Robb MacKie.

Over a 60-year career, he had the distinction of serving with honor for over 20 years on the ABA Board of Directors and as an active member of the ABA Industrial Relations Committee, which evolved into the present ABA Human Resources Committee. Mr. Schwebel also worked tirelessly alongside Pat Callaghan, Pepperidge Farm; George Deese, Flowers Foods; and Gary Prince with Weston Foods, at that time, to bring the baking industry together with the milling industry and form the Grain Foods Foundation. As a direct result of Mr. Schwebel’s quiet but persistent leadership, GFF turned the tide against the Atkins diet and has been an integral tool in the industry’s arsenal ever since.
