Reedley, CA  – California produce marketer DJ Forry kicks off the 2013 California persimmon season with the release of its Forry’s Finest™ California Fuyu and Hachiya 4 count stand-up pouch bags.

Both packages play up the nutritional value of persimmons while illustrating the different uses of the Fuyu vs. the Hachiya persimmon. Each variety ships in a high graphic display-ready carton.

“DJ Forry’s been bringing California persimmons to market for over 40 years” said Mike Forry, who represents the third generation of the family business. “My grandfather started marketing persimmons back in 1972 and we’ve gone to market with persimmons in pretty much the same manner for the last 40 years, and when you think about it, I don’t believe merchandising persimmons at the retail level has changed much in the last 40 years either. Our positive experience with pouch bag cherries, stone fruit and grapes leads us to believe that going to market with persimmons in the same manner is a natural progression that will yield positive results.”

DJ Forry utilized learning’s from their recent branding initiative to develop the new Forry’s Finest™ persimmon pouches.

“Our branding exercise reinforced the fact that consumers want to know where their produce comes from, how to use it, and what nutritional value it provides.” added VP of Marketing; Ray England. “We developed our persimmon pouches with the consumer in mind. Fuyu and Hachiya persimmons are very nutritious containing high levels of vitamins A & C; however, they are consumed differently. Fuyu’s are eaten like an apple or pear while the Hachiya persimmon is best utilized for baking and must be extremely ripe when used. Many consumers don’t know that there are two different types of persimmons or how to use them, much less that they contain high amounts of vitamins A & C. Our new Fuyu and Hachiya persimmon pouches state those facts very clearly which we hope aids consumers and retailers alike.”
