MONTEREY, Calif.  — Dole, the world’s largest provider of fresh fruits and vegetables, with a strong commitment to health and wellness, is sponsoring the leading symposium on the health benefits of berries.

Dole Food Company, is the host sponsor of the fifth biennial International Berry Health Benefits Symposium, June 18-20, 2013, in Charlotte, N.C. The three-day event at the Embassy Suites Charlotte-Concord will feature presentations on the importance of berries and their positive effect on human disease prevention by leading scientists from around the world. Berries are increasingly viewed as having a positive impact on aging-related diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and mental decline.

As part of the sponsorship, Dole will offer the North Carolina Research Tour on June 20. A visit to the Kannapolis, N.C., campus of the David H. Murdoch Research Institute and the Dole Nutrition Research Laboratory will give tour members a glimpse of the high-tech tools used to evaluate the effects of berries in the diet. Dole established the Dole Nutrition Research Laboratory at the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) to further the development of healthier fruits and vegetables.

“Dole has emerged as one of the world’s largest providers of fresh berries – so being able to host the International Berry Health Benefits Symposium is a great honor,” said Chris Mayhew, vice president of marketing for Dole. “The partnership also gives us the opportunity to showcase our world-class research facilities at the NCRC.”

As part of Dole’s Host Sponsorship, guests will enjoy DOLE® Brainberries®, a line of pre-washed, premium DOLE Blueberries in a convenient snack pack. Rising stars in the berry family, blueberries provide cardiovascular health, have been linked to reversing age-related memory loss and brighten and soften skin.
