NORWELL — Tucked behind the Jacobs Farm Homestead, some 3,000 dahlias cover a field measuring about a quarter of an acre, their green stems dotted with reds, oranges, pinks and purples.
The flowers were planted by Cara Gilmartin and Nikki Bartley, who run Cross Street Flower Farm together. Started in 2015, the farm got its name from the original growing location at Bartley’s house.
Now in their fourth growing season, the pair grow their flowers on land at Norwell Farms, a community farm located at the Jacobs Homestead. They sell flowers for events, especially weddings, and run a flower subscription service that provides subscribers with a fresh bouquet of flowers each week. They also teach workshops on topics that include spring bulbs and bouquet designs.
