National Fisheries Institute Launches Dish On Fish Instagram Account

McLEAN, Va. – With its recent launch of an Instagram account, The National Fisheries Institute’s Dish on Fish seafood education initiative continues to expand its online reach and influence.

The move to add a new promotional outlet to the initiative comes nearly two years after The NFI first introduced a blog and other social media channels to encourage consumers to enjoy seafood at least twice a week, as recommended by the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Since that successful start, the blog and its corresponding social media pages – on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter – have focused primarily on inspiring seafood enjoyment at home, leaving The NFI with a window of opportunity for promoting restaurants and other out-of-home, seafood-eating experiences. The new Instagram account will do just that by celebrating the amazingly delicious and diverse seafood dishes served at eateries across the country.

“With this launch, we’re creating an entirely new venue for encouraging seafood consumption, this time focusing on the away from home experience,” said Judy Dashiell, Senior Vice President with The National Fisheries Institute. “We’re highlighting eateries that create beautiful, crave-worthy seafood dishes with the goal of expanding our audience of passionate seafood lovers via Instagram and strengthening our relationships with chefs and purveyors.”

Officially launched April 15, the Instagram handle @dishonfish features a wide range of restaurant types from across the U.S., from food trucks to five-star establishments. Each piece of hand-selected content spotlights a unique seafood element – such as seafood variety, type of dish, or flavor profile.

“By curating an assortment of different eateries, we hope to demonstrate that delicious seafood can be found at every price point, anywhere in the country,” continued Dashiell. “And, being that we wanted to feature more inspirational, ‘foodie-style’ content, Instagram seemed like a very natural fit for us.”

The @dishonfish Instagram handle already has more than 140 followers and is generating an average engagement rate of 24.89% per post. To learn more, visit @dishonfish on Instagram or head to the Dish on Fish blog, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter pages.
