Café Spice, the pioneering, family-owned brand offering authentic global cuisine with Indian roots, is the proud recipient of two 2018 Specialty Food Association sofi™ Awards. Café Spice’s Potato Samosas was the Gold winner for the Savory Appetizer, Soup, Stew category, while their Vegetable Bhajias won the Gold in the Gluten-Free category.
The specialty outstanding food innovation Awards, aka the sofi™ Awards, have been recognizing the best in specialty food for more than 45 years. Café Spice’s products earned top honors through a blind tasting process conducted by a judging panel of seasoned food professionals. The products were evaluated on taste (flavor, appearance, texture and aroma) and ingredient quality. Café Spice and their fellow Gold sofi™ winners are now in the running to be named Product of the Year, which will be announced at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City (June 30th-July 2nd).
Café Spice’s winning Small Bites are created by renowned Chef Hari Nayak and are inspired by classic Indian appetizers and street food. The crispy Potato Samosas are prepared with potatoes, peas and freshly ground spices, while the Vegetable Bhajias are similar to fritters, but made with chickpea flour and feature potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, onions and freshly ground spices. Both items are served with Café Spice’s signature tamarind and green chili chutneys. The ready-to-eat items, which are free of additives and artificial preservatives, are handcrafted in small batches at Café Spice’s USDA kitchen in New York’s Hudson Valley.
