The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released guidance documents covering topics such as dietary fiber, added sugars, and serving sizes. These are the first guidance documents covering the new nutrition labeling regulations that have been published since January 2017.
FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., stated in his press release on March 1, 2018 that the FDA plans to finalize the new compliance date in the spring of 2018. In October 2017, the FDA proposed to extend the compliance date for the new regulations to January 1, 2020 for manufacturers with $10 million or more in annual food sales and to January 1, 2021 for manufacturers with less than $10 million in annual food sales.
The FDA also published Questions and Answers for Industry on Dietary Fiber and updated Industry Resources on the Changes to the Nutrition Facts Label.
