Tesco has fired the latest salvo in what is being dubbed the "time wars" between food retailers by launching a same-day click and collect service for grocery orders.
The move by Tesco to enter the fray comes on the back of encouraging sales figures from Kantar Worldpanel on Tuesday, which raised hopes the company's turnaround was on track.
Food retailers are having to provide faster services for increasingly time-poor shoppers as the trend for convenience grips the nation. Rather than just competing on price, the major supermarkets are now competing to offer the fastest service and ramp up their defences against the threat of Amazon Fresh.
