Dutch Tulip Supply Blossoms In 2011’s First Week
January 20, 2011 | 1 min to read
There has been a massive increase in the supply of tulips, as nearly 50 million stems were supplied to the flower auctions in the first week of 2011. That represents an increase of more than a 100 percent, in comparison to the prior week.
FloraHolland explains the significant supply increase by pointing to a number of key retailers that have already launched their tulip campaigns in week one. Generally, that never happens this early on in the year just yet, the auction points out.
Now that the wintery weather seems to be over, FloraHolland is looking to the near future with optimism as well. An absolute peak in sales is expected in week 3, which is almost upon us already. That’s “when the salaries get paid out everywhere and consumers worldwide become a bit more comfortable about putting a nice bouquet on the table again”, the auction prophesizes.
