MADISON, Wis. – To celebrate the October release of author Gordon Edgar’s new book: Cheddar: A Journey to the Heart of America's Most Iconic Cheese, Metcalfe’s Market will host Edgar for a one-hour Cheddar Talk & Tasting on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.
The class will take place at Metcalfe’s West Towne, 7455 Mineral Point Rd, Madison. For $25, attendees will receive an autographed copy of the book, hear Edgar read select passages, and taste & learn the story of four Cheddars from Metcalfe’s Specialty Cheese Buyer Jeanne Carpenter.
Long before it was trendy, or even considered a legitimate profession in the United States, Edgar worked as a cheesemonger at Rainbow Grocery Cooperative in San Francisco. Today, nearly 20 years later, he is more than the store’s specialty cheese buyer: he is a national voice and opinion leader for American artisan cheese.
Cheddar not only provides information on the regional differences of America’s most iconic cheese, but also discusses the bigger food issues that face our society. Readers will learn that while Edgar’s writing style was honed in a youth full of punk rock and progressive politics, today, his humor and honest perspectives on cheese are as thought-provoking as they are entertaining.
The October 24 class is limited to 35 attendees, and all tickets should be purchased in advance. Tickets are available now at www.WisconsinCheeseOriginals.com .
