Nominate Legendary Bun Puns and Dad Jokes; Winning Names Featured on S. Rosen’s Delivery Trucks

CHICAGO — Chicago-based Alpha Baking Co., Inc., the bakers behind beloved Chicagoland brands S. Rosen’s, Mary Ann Baking and Natural Ovens, is celebrating Father’s Day with the return of its “Name a Bread Truck” contest, inviting the public to submit pun-filled truck names inspired by dads and the legendary dad jokes they deliver.

For the contest, Alpha Baking is asking participants to nominate a father, grandfather, mentor, caregiver or other VIP “dad figure” whose favorite sayings, endearing nicknames or smart-aleck comebacks inspire a creative bread truck name.

Three winning entries will be selected by a panel of Alpha Baking employees and featured on designated S. Rosen’s delivery trucks traveling throughout Chicagoland. Winners will also receive a prize package that includes a year’s supply of bread, two tickets to a Chicago Cubs or Milwaukee Brewers game, a collectible mini bread truck and lifelong bread bragging rights.

“Our S. Rosen’s trucks are part of the daily rhythm of Chicago — delivering fresh bread, buns and rolls to grocery stores, restaurants and neighborhood hot dog stands before most people have had their first cup of coffee,” said Stephanie Powell, director of marketing for Alpha Baking Co. “With Father’s Day approaching, we thought it would be fun to celebrate the dads and father figures known for their classic dad jokes, bun puns and unforgettable one-liners.”

Contest judges will evaluate submissions based on creativity, wit, uniqueness, product knowledge and expression of theme.

The contest is open to residents of Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. Entries can be submitted online at https://www.srosens.com/nameabreadtruck/ from April 7 through June 5, with winners announced in June ahead of Father’s Day.

“We’re expecting some truly ‘fully baked’ ideas,” Powell added. “Chicagoans have a great sense of humor, and dads are famous for delivering the kind of jokes that never get old — even if their kids pretend they do.”

About Alpha Baking

Chicago-based Alpha Baking Co., Inc. provides premium baked goods to restaurants, food service outlets, retailers, and consumers under the S. Rosen’s, Mary Ann Baking, and Natural Ovens brands. Alpha Baking Co., employs more than 1,800 people at its six production plants.

S. Rosen’s began in 1909 when founder Sam Rosen purchased a small bakery on Chicago’s Northwest side. Rosen’s became a Chicago tradition and they would later merge with Mary Ann Baking Company, producer of the iconic poppy seed hot dog buns, used at more than 90 percent of Chicagoland hot dog stands today. Alpha Baking is still a family-owned company, with Sam Rosen’s grandson Steve serving on the board and his son Jason serving as Safety Director for the company. The company continues its long-standing support of food-insecure organizations, including donating more than 265 million pounds of bread products in 2020.
