Stratas Foods' SUSTAIN & FRYMAX Sun Supreme Selected For Non-GMO Project Verification

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Stratas Foods announced that three of its products have received Non-GMO Project Verification.

The Non-GMO Project (www.nongmoproject.org) offers North America’s only independent verification for products made according to rigorous best practices for GMO (genetically modified organisms) avoidance. Stratas’ Verified Products are produced in compliance with the Non-GMO Project Standard—that means ongoing testing of all GMO risk ingredients, facility inspections and an annual audit to ensure we’re meeting the highest possible standards for GMO avoidance. A GMO plant is one that has been developed through a very specific process in which part of its genetic material has been modified to improve one of more of its traits for yield, tolerance, resistance, vitamin content or some other benefit.

The three Stratas products that have received Non-GMO Project Verification are SUSTAIN™, FRYMAX® Sun Supreme and FRYMAX® Sun Supreme without silicone. The Stratas products join a list of more than 20,000 products verified by the Project since 2010.

“We are pleased that these three products from Stratas have been verified for the Non-GMO Project,” said David Tillman, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Stratas Foods LLC. “It is a very thorough verification process that consumers can trust. Though a vast majority of conventional processed foods in this country are GMO, we know that non-GMO status is an important consideration in product selection for some customers, and this verification means they have a dependable choice for their frying needs.”

While the United States has no restrictions on the use of GMOS, there are more than 60 countries worldwide that have banned or restricted their use. Eighty percent of America’s conventional processed foods contain a GMO presence, so consumers who want to avoid GMOs must rely on independent verification from the Non-GMO Project.

Sustain, a new product launched by Stratas in late summer, is formulated using a blend of mid-oleic and high-oleic sunflower oil that hits the triad of key targets for oils: satisfying consumer health concerns, surpassing restaurant performance requirements, and meeting industry sustainability goals. Previous non-GMO options in the market typically suffered from either poor performance in the fryer, flavor concerns or high costs.

“Sustain hits all of these needs across the restaurant industry for a non-GMO frying solution,” added Tillman. “This product not only meets the dual goal of being non-GMO as well as zero trans fat, it is a high performing oil with excellent fry life, a light and clean flavor that lets the true flavor of the food come through, and with little to no polymerization it offers minimal gumming for easy fryer clean up. All of these mean lower oil fry costs per day and high quality finished fried foods.”
